The dial is crisp white porcelain enamel with its original blued steel hands and convex glass. The dial is signed for the retailer, Chevauchee, Clermont-Ferrand. The French movement is of high quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is original. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running! Condition of the case is very good, the original finish has some rubbing, loss, discoloration and tarnish. The marble is also very good with some small nibbles to the corners and edges. The marble of the bottom of the case has an old repair.
Pierre Sega - although a prolific sculptor during the Art
Deco period, very little is known about him. Believed to be French, or certainly worked in France,
he produced many figural items including lamps and clocks. He worked mainly in spelter and made many pieces using celluloid materials as covering for wooden bases and clock surrounds, with faux tortoishell and pearlised finishes.
He used a lot of classical subjects such as Pan, Pannette and Diane the Huntress. Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employ two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free. |
